Every Silver Lining Has a Rain Cloud   November 9, 2011

Every silver lining has a rain cloud.

I don't envy people with power. I have enough responsibility already.

I don't envy people with fame. They have no privacy and I make too many mistakes for that kind of scrutiny.

I don't envy people who are young. Wisdom and knowledge come with age and experience. I would not want to go back to being foolish.

I don't envy people who are beautiful. They never know if people value them for who they are or just how they look. They have to be very strong to reject a lot of temptations.

I don't envy people who are rich. People with a lot of money have a lot of problems, and people who value money can never get enough of it. Rich people, like beautiful people, never know if people like them for who they are or just for what they can give them. I particularly don't envy people with old money. If you are born with everything you want then you have little to work for, little more that you can achieve.

I envy people with good relationships who share a lifetime surrounded by friends and loved ones. I envy people like my parents who share 50 years with the same person, and who can look back over their lives and share their lifetime of memories with their partner. I wish that I had met my wife sooner. Then again maybe I would not have been ready for her. Maybe I would have just screwed it up if we had met 10 years earlier.

Every silver lining has a rain cloud.
